Pond a few miles north of Keāhole Point, Kona, Hawaiʻi, a wildlife sanctuary where ducks, coots, stilts, and other Hawaiian birds feed on the abundant shrimp. The pond was probably much larger before a large part of it was buried in lava; ancient fishpond stone walls are said to remain today.
A heiau of this name on Molokaʻi was destroyed in 1899 when a pier was built at Kaunakakai (Summers 84-85).

Pond (12 acres), Makalawena, North Kona, Hawaiʻi. Important wetland for native and migratory waterbirds behind the dunes of Makalawena Beach. Also known as Kapoʻikai Pond. Lit., red shrimp. Fishermen here and elsewhere in Kona caught ʻōpaeʻula and mixed them with their chum when netting ʻōpelu, or mackerel scad.
