kū.ā.kiʻi
vi. To stand with hands on hips or crossed in front, as suggestive of the stance of an image (kiʻi) considered a sign of rudeness and an indication that one wants to lord it over others, or as a sign that one will not cooperate. Kā! ʻAʻohe kanaka kūākiʻi noho wale o kahi o nā aliʻi! Ha! Nobody stands around with hands on hips doing nothing at the residence of the chiefs!
