kū.palu
vt. To stuff with food, fatten, hence to make a favorite; to attract fish by chumming, as with decayed pork; to mash to a pulp, sometimes said of tapa particles or cloth beaten into tapa as it is being prepared. Cf. palu. Kūpalu manō, to chum sharks; shark bait (said also of human taboo breakers thrown into the sea).
