s. A species of fish.

Flying gurnard (Dactyloptena orientalis). Described as a family containing “some of the most bizarre of fishes.” This is the only Hawaiian species. The gurnards move largely on the bottom by walking on their pelvic fins. They do not approach the surface, much less fly. Also called lolo oau, pinao.
