Bronze-yellow mutant of ʻāwela (or vice versa). On exposure to the sun it takes on a deep, reddish-bronze cast over the yellow-like gold. Kamakea: Discovered by Kalua and Paiaalani. The latter suggested he use the cane juice to cover his boils and sores: boil it in hot water, drink some, and rub it in the skin. Insipid when eaten. Also soft.
